World of Trouble by Ben Winters

The final book in Winters’ trilogy did not disappoint. As with Megan Abbott, I have little to say beyond this: I love this author’s work and it has yet to let me down in even the smallest ways. I literally cried at the end of this book, awed by the beauty of the resolution that Winters wrote but also sad to bid farewell to the characters I’d come to care about so much. Though it won’t be part of #MySummerOfMysteries, I can’t wait to read Winters’ latest, Underground Airlines

Also, I should note that this concludes #MySummerOfMysteries for 2016. The original goal of this project was to immerse myself in crime fiction, thrillers, and mysteries in preparation to attend Bouchercon 2016. I accomplished that task and had an incredible time at the conference, continuing to explore a genre that I’m happy to say I’ve fallen back in love with after many years. I hope to re-instate this project in Summer 2017, though it’s hard to say if it’ll be #MySummerOfMysteries or maybe something different… say, #SeasonOfSciFi…

This post is part of #MySummerOfMysteries, a project to immerse myself in mysteries, thrillers, crime writing, and whodunits. For each book I finish, I’m posting brief thoughts and reflections here. Please note that these are not intended as full reviews. To view my reading progress throughout the summer, click here.
